Talk It Out with Jodi Leib
Howard Dean
original interview
April 25, 2004
Jodi: How are you
today, Mr. Dean?
Howard Dean: Very well, how are you?
Jodi: Excellent. Thank you so much for being here because we
don't have a whole lot of leadership in this country, and it's very nice
to see you showing up for us at the March for Women's Lives.
Howard Dean: Thanks. It's a big deal, because women still
don't have equal pay as men. President Bush is attacking the child
care budget, he's attacking the public school systems, attacking
healthcare. 500,000 kids lost their healthcare under this
President. It's time we start mobilizing and fighting back, and
that's what this is all about.
Jodi: I know this is really extreme, but I'm going to say it
because I'm honest about what I think and feel. I feel our like
President is practicing Nazi philosophy, and I think it's really
dangerous. I am alarmed at this, and I don't usually go there, but
I feel - do you think that's what he's doing?
Howard Dean: I just think he's really practicing a policy of
neglect. I don't think he knows what it's like to be an ordinary
American, struggling to make your paycheck and keep your kids in school.
I think he has no idea how tough it is. I think we need a
President who might understand that.
Jodi: Do you think he understands how to make positive choices for
healthy people?
Howard Dean: I don't think he understands anything about choice.
He's certainly not in favor of it, as far as I can gather from what's
going on around here today. He's certainly not in favor of women
making any choices over their reproductive life. I disagree with
him on that one. I think women ought to have the same rights under
the law as men do.
Jodi: Thank you so much for Talking It Out, I really appreciate
it!
